Usage

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote two English translations of Jules Verne's work The Mysterious Island, the 1st British edition (1825, 3 volumes) and an 1876 American edition (1 volume). Although the translation is credited to William Henry Giles Kingston, it was actually done by his wife Agnes Kinloch Kingston. The template can be used to create links to online versions of the work at Google Books:

1st British edition (1825):
- Volume I.
- Volume II.
- Volume III.
American edition (1826).

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

|year= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1826 American edition, use |year=1826.
|1= or |volume= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1825 British edition, specify the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, from |volume=Ito |volume=III.
|2= or |chapter= – the chapter number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals. In the 1825 British edition, the chapter numbers begin from I in each volume.
|3= or |page=, or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
- You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

This parameter must be specified for the template to link to an online version of the work.

|url= – if quoting from the 1825 British edition, due to erratic pagination, the URL of the webpage to link to must be manually specified: see the example below. This parameter can be omitted if quoting from the 1826 American edition.
|4=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
|footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
|brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
