Usage
[edit]This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote James Thomson's work Agamemnon. A Tragedy. (1st edition, 1738). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Dedication | To Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales |
Epilogue | Epilogue. Spoken by Mrs. [Catherine] Cibber. |
Prologue | Prologue. By the Author of Eurydice. Spoken by Mr. [James] Quin. |
- As the dedication is unpaginated, use
|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://books.google.com/books?id=audDAQAAMAAJ&pg=PP9
, specify|page=9
. (The prologue and epilogue are also unpaginated, but the template is able to determine the URL.)
|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
- You must specify this information to have the template determine the act number (I–V) and scene number quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
Act I pages 1–14 |
Act II pages 15–31 |
Act III pages 32–44 |
Act IV pages 45–56 |
Act V pages 57–71 |
|scene=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number quoted from. If it is unable to do so, use this parameter to specify the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, like this:|scene=i
.|3=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
