Template:RQ:Shirley Schoole of Complement/documentation
Appearance
Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from James Shirley's work The Schoole of Complement (also known as Love Tricks; 2nd edition, 1637); the 1st edition (London: […] E[lizabet] A[llde] for Francis Constable […], 1631; →OCLC) is not currently available online. It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from the epistle dedicatory specify|chapter=Epistle Dedicatory
, and if quoting from the prologue specify|chapter=Prologue
. As the epistle dedicatory is unpaginated, use|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://books.google.com/books?id=heJiAAAAcAAJ&pg=PP9
, specify|page=9
. (The prologue is also unpaginated but the template can determine the URL.)|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the act number quoted from. It is unable to do so if page 11, 22, 40, or 57 is specified, in which case the act number must be manually specified in uppercase Roman numerals, like this:|act=I
.
Act I pages 1–11 |
Act II pages 11–22 |
Act III pages 22–40 |
Act IV pages 40–57 |
Act V pages 57–74 |
|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
