Appearance
Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Francis Quarles's work Solomons Recantation, Entituled Ecclesiastes, Paraphrased (1st edition, 1645). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|1=
or|chapter=
–- If quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Duport | In obitum viri clarissimi, atque ingeniosissimi Poëtæ, Francisci Quarles, Θρηνῳδία (by Jacobus [i.e., Jacob] Duport) |
Life | A Short Relation of the Life and Death of Mr. Francis Quarles (by Ursula Quarles) |
Rogers | A Letter from a Learned Divine upon the News of the Death of Mr Quarles (by Nehemiah Rogers) |
Stable | An Elegie upon the Famous Poet Francis Quarles (by R. Stable) |
- As the "Short Relation of the Life and Death of Mr. Francis Quarles" is unpaginated, use
|2=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://books.google.com/books?id=7AoDAAAAQAAJ&pg=PP9
, specify|page=9
. (The "Letter from a Learned Divine" is also unpaginated, but the template is able to determine the URL.)- If quoting from the main part of the work, use this parameter to specify the chapter number in uppercase Roman numerals.
|soliloquie=
– if quoting from a soliloquy, the soliloquy number in uppercase Roman numerals.|2=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.
The two pages after page 62 are unnumbered; specify them as
|page=63
and|page=64
.
|3=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
