Usage

[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Ford's work The Broken Heart. A Tragedy. (1st edition, 1633). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |chapter= – if quoting from the following chapters of the work indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
Parameter value Result
Epilogue The Epilogue
Epistle Dedicatorie To the Most Worthy Deserver of the Noblest Titles in Honour, William, Lord Craven, Baron of Hamsteed-Marshall
Prologue The Prologue
  • |1= or |page=mandatory: as the work is unpaginated, use |1= or |page= to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive ("IA") to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://archive.org/details/fordbrokenheart/page/n7/mode/1up, specify |page=7. This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) and scene number quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
  • |act=mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the act number of the play quoted from. However, the template is unable to do this if page 24, 37, 54, or 69 is quoted from, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, like this: |act=I.
Act I
IA pages 11–24
Act II
IA pages 15–37
Act III
IA pages 37–54
Act IV
IA pages 54–69
Act V
IA pages 69–79
  • |scene=mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number of the play quoted from. However, if the template is unable to do so, this parameter must be used to specify the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, like this: |scene=i.
  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
