Usage

[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote from Robert Ford (editor), Vagabond Songs and Ballads of Scotland (1st edition; 1st series, 1899; 2nd series, 1901). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive:

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |series=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 2nd series (1901), use |series=2. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the 1st series (1899).
  • |1=, |song=, or |title= – the title of the song quoted from. At present, specifying the following titles will automatically create a link to relevant English Wikipedia articles about the works:

For help with adding other poems to the template, leave a message on the talk page or at "Wiktionary:Grease pit".
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
You must specify this information to have the template create an automatic link to the online version of the work.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage to be quoted from the work.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
  • |sco= – the template assumes that an English quotation is being given. To indicate that the quotation is in Scots, specify |sco=1 or |sco=yes.
