Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Colley Cibber's work The Double Gallant: Or, The Sick Lady’s Cure. A Comedy. (1st edition, 1707). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from "To the Reader", the prologue, or the epilogue, specify|chapter=Reader
,|chapter=Prologue
, or|chapter=Epilogue
respectively. As "To the Reader" and the prologue are unpaginated, use|1=
or|page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL ishttps://archive.org/details/doublegallantors00cibb/page/n4/mode/1up
, specify|page=4
. (The epilogue is also unpaginated, but the template can determine the URL.)|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this:
- This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number (I–V) and scene number quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the act number quoted from. However, it is unable to do so if page 14, 25, or 64 is specified, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, like this:|act=I
.
Act I pages 1–14 |
Act II pages 14–25 |
Act III pages 25–40 |
Act IV pages 41–64 |
Act V pages 64–80 |
|scene=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number quoted from. If it is unable to do so, this parameter must be used to specify the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, like this:|scene=i
. (The scene numbers are displayed in brackets as they are not numbered in the work.)|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment about the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
