Usage
[edit]This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Gilbert Burnet's work The History of the Rights of Princes in the Disposing of Ecclesiastical Benefices and Church-lands (1st edition, 1681). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|part=
– mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the preface specify|part=Preface
, and if quoting from "A Collection of Letters and Instruments that have Passed during the Late Contests in France Concerning the Regale" or "An Appendix Containing Some Curious Letters and Papers" specify|part=Letters
. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the main part of the work.|1=
or|chapter=
– if the name of the chapter quoted from is not automatically indicated by the template, use this parameter to specify it.|2=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
- You must specify this information to have the template determine, in some cases, the name of the chapter or part of the work quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
- The page numbering starts from 1 in the preface, the main part of the work, and from "A Collection of Letters and Instruments that have Passed during the Late Contests in France Concerning the Regale".
- In the preface, pages after 64 are misnumbered *95–*110; specify them as
|page=65
to|page=80
.- In "An Appendix Containing Some Curious Letters and Papers":
- After page 208, page numbers 205–208 are reused; the text is unaffected. Specify those pages as
|page=205A
to|page=208A
.- Page 209 is misnumbered as 289; specify it as
|page=209
.
|3=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
