This template should be used in the References section of Old Tupi animal names.
As said in page 248's footnote, most of the species given are attempts based on the little info given by the original authors and existing descendants in living languages. This work is a good compilation of contemporary sources, amassing 1330 Tupian zoonyms, but some of the identificactions should be taken with a grain of salt.
In the text, the * indicates the oldest use of that name, † that the name wasn't inherited and ‡ that no indetification is possible.
