Usage
[edit]This template may be used in “References” sections and on talk pages to provide a citation to the 1611 King James Version (Authorized Version) of the Bible. It can be used to link to either of the following online versions of the work:
- The King James Bible Online website.
- The King James Bible at the Internet Archive.
Parameters
[edit]The template may be used with the following numbered or named parameters:
|1=
or|book=
– the name of the book of the Bible quoted – see the table below for the full list.|2=
or|chapter=
– mandatory if book indicated: the chapter of the book quoted.|3=
or|verse=
– mandatory if book indicated: the verse of the chapter quoted.|4=
or|verse_end=
– if you are citing a range of verses, use this parameter to indicate the verse that ends the range.|column=
or|columns=
– the column number quoted from in Arabic numerals, either|column=1
or|column=2
. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or specify|columns=1–2
(separating the column numbers with an en dash).|5=
or|passage=
– the passage quoted from the Bible. For accuracy, please quote the 1611 version of the text, not an older or newer version.|url=
or|page=
– if a book, chapter and verse are specified, the template automatically creates a link to the King James Bible Online website. However, if you wish to create a link to the online version of the King James Bible at the Internet Archive, either:- use
|url=
to specify the URL to be linked to; or - use
|page=
to specify the Internet Archive “page” to be linked to. The actual work is unpaginated, but the Internet Archive has assigned numbers to each page of the work. For example, if the URL of the webpage to be linked to ishttps://archive.org/stream/Bible1611/Binder1#page/n78/mode/1up
, specify|page=78
, omitting the n.
- use
|nodot=
– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use|nodot=1
or|nodot=yes
.
