Usage
[edit]This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections of Wiktionary entries, and on talk pages, to provide a citation to the Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction, which is an offshoot of the Oxford English Dictionary's Science Fiction Citations Project but is no longer formally affiliated with it.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|1=
,|id=
, or|id1=
– the number appearing at the end of the URL of the webpage that the template should link to. For example, if the URL ishttps://sfdictionary.com/view/14/
, then specify|id=14
.|2=
,|entry=
,|label=
, or|label1=
– the entry cited. If the parameter is not specified, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.|pos=
– the part of speech of the entry. By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify|noformat=1
or|noformat=yes
: see the example below.
- To cite a second entry, use
|3=
or|id2=
;|4=
,|entry2=
, or|label2=
; and|pos2=
(and|noformat2=
if needed).- To cite a third entry, use
|5=
or|id3=
;|6=
,|entry3=
, or|label3=
; and|pos3=
(and|noformat3=
if needed).
|text=
or|passage=
– a passage quoted from the Dictionary.|nodot=
– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use|nodot=1
or|nodot=yes
.
