This template is a reference template for Middle French, although it may occasionally be used for other languages, such as to source an etymology. It generates a link to the Dictionnaire du moyen français, which is maintained by the University of Lorraine and the Centre national de la recherche scientifique. It takes the following parameters, none of which are mandatory:
|1=
(optional) the page to be linked to. The default is{{PAGENAME}}
.|alt=
(optional) an alternative display title visible to the reader other than the one that is being linked to. Useful for entries that use the modern French title in their URL instead of the Middle French (e.g. desployer uses the title déployer). Default is|1=
or if that is not specified{{PAGENAME}}
.|num=
(optional) the entry number, superscripted and after the display word to match the dictionary's own format|ref=
(optional) to work around a bug in the <ref></ref> syntax, when used inside this syntax, specifyref=1
.
- It may occasionally be used in Old French entries as our cutoff date is 1340 (Wiktionary:About Old French) and the Dictionnaire du moyen français has a cutoff date of 1330.
- The
num
parameter can be replaced with the1
andalt
parameters if so desired:
{{R:DMF|num=1}}
