Usage
[edit]This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections, and on talk pages, to cite John Russell Bartlett's Dictionary of Americanisms: A Glossary of Words and Phrases usually Regarded as Peculiar to the United States (1st edition, 1848; 2nd edition, 1859; 3rd edition, 1860; and 4th edition, 1877). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive:
- 1st edition (1848).
- 2nd edition (1859).
- 3rd edition (1860).
- 4th edition (1877).
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following optional parameters:
|edition=
– mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 2nd edition (1850), 3rd edition (1860), or 4th edition (1877), specify|edition=2nd
to|edition=4th
. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the 1st edition (1848).|1=
or|entry=
– the entry in the work to be cited. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.|2=
,|page=
or|pages=
– the page number(s) of the work cited. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
