Usage

[edit]

This template is used to indicate the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) of a work. It is used by, among others, {{cite-meta}}.

Examples

[edit]

The template takes only one parameter: the ISBN of a work. It is suggested that you provide a 13-digit hyphenated form of an ISBN. To convert a 10-digit ISBN into a 13-digit one, or an unhyphenated ISBN into a hyphenated one, use the ISBN Converter provided by the Library of Congress.

Technical information

[edit]

The purpose of the template is to switch from "magic link" syntax to more explicit syntax.

This template uses Module:check isxn to validate the ISBN. If the ISBN is not valid, a link will still be generated, but an error message will be displayed and the page on which the template is used will be added to Category:Pages with ISBN errors.
