How about the use of a tilde as a placeholder for the headword in dictionary entries: something like "cow, n. a bovine animal. till the ~s come home, for a long time, indefinitely." Equinox 18:34, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Further Internet sense?

[edit]

We have: "Indicating joy, elation, excitement, or a playful tone." But I often see it used in a sarcastic way, like air quotes, e.g. [1] "and THAT’S why as a queer person i can’t stand macklemore. he preaches about ~gay rights~ (which is a shitty and biphobic/transphobic term to begin with) [] he uses his support of ~*~The Gays~*~ to try and show what a great guy he is. how he’s better than all those other black rappers out there who are ~so homophobic~."
