Etymology

[edit]

From Turkish "zabata"? Where did this information come from? I've never heard it before Sinek 17:29, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. Also, the more likely etymology is Arabic in origin. After all, many words in Spanish are derived from Arabic during the Arabic presence in Spain which predates Turkish influence over Islamic societies. Therefore it is more likely that Arabic lent the word to Spanish (the Arabic word is 'dhabbat, pronounced like zabat) and then also loaned it to Turkish. Of course this is all speculation in absence of any reference. 163.1.167.209 03:34, 10 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
