In "Gulag Archipelago", Solzhenitsyn also uses this as some kind of automobile associated with the Soviet purges; there, it's derived by shortening from the Romanization of a Russian word, so I dunno whether it's truly English.

"Zak": заключенный (approx., zak-lyu-che-niy), "under lock and key", prisoner.
