Only now when I read this, have I ever heard that it implies you must be talking to a female. I think it makes sense it would come from yes ma'am, for short, but I think it does not necc. imply you are talking to a female anymore.
- That's what I thought too, I was going to change it but did some googling, it does look like it's much more commonly used when addressing a woman. So I added a note about it, since it definitely isn't exclusive to women anymore. WurdSnatcher (talk)
