If I'm not mistaken, it's common (not only scottish, or "puristic", whatever that means) at least in the phrase "old wives' tales" (compare the latin "fābulae", or "fābellae", "anīlēs"). One is reminded of the french "femme". 2001:B07:A56:A8BC:5ADC:A8F2:E65D:F5E1 14:41, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
