- Late C14: Thanne were myn herte / Al warisshed of his bittre peynes smerte. — Geoffrey Chaucer, ‘The Franklin's Tale’, Canterbury Tales
I moved that line from the entry, because it's Middle English. - -sche (discuss) 04:11, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- Well please don't. We should have quotations illustrating usage which go back to Middle English; that shows how the word has developed over time. Ƿidsiþ 05:49, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- We wouldn't put Late Latin quotations in Italian entries, though, would we? As long as we treat Middle English and Old English as separate languages, the Middle English quotations belong in my opinion in ==Middle English== sections (and Old English quotations showing usage in that era belong in ==Old English== entries). This seems to be a general question (not specific to this word), so I'll add it to the BP discussion of Middle English's cutoff date. - -sche (discuss) 06:17, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
