Veg*n

Why is the title "veg*n" and not "vegan"? Looks a bit confusing to me. Can the page be moved?

There was quite an argument about this before. It shouldn't be merged with vegan. It's, apparently, a term used on the internet to describe both vegans and vegetarians. The * derives from computing where it represents a wildcard; that is, it can be anything, so the string veg*n is a match for both vegan and vegetarian. Technically, veg*an is a match as well, but that's not what's in use. I hope that helps. -Wytukaze 16:22, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

I have seen this used and used it myself, but it's a shame Wiktionary doesn't cite real examples of the word being used 'in the wild' in the manner of a good print dictionary. When is this first attested? 18:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
