Etymology

Because gentlemanly is a well-known word with a meaning, and ungentleman isn't. In decades of reading English literature I don't think I have once seen anyone called an "ungentleman". @Backinstadiums: If that word exists (I've never seen it in use) then of course it should be kept. However, that word would be either a back-formation from ungentlemanly, or formed as un- + gentleman. It's not the root of this word here ungentlemanly. Equinox ◑ 23:38, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
