Difficult to penetrate

[edit]

Is this literal usage? E.g. the fortress was unfathomable? Renard Migrant (talk) 11:03, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

/ʌnˈfætəməbəl/

[edit]

I thought it's pronounced /ʌnˈfætəməbəl/. I am a Green Bee (talk) 19:52, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not in the US or the UK (at least not in England). Since /ð/ is very rare among the languages of the world, very few non-native English speakers get the sound right- so terms with /ð/ serve somewhat as shibboleths to mark non-native speakers. Chuck Entz (talk) 21:41, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
