Talk:trivial name

Iron
[edit]It said, “"Iron" is an arguable example, its name not matching the symbol "Fe" for "ferrum".” I removed this, on the grounds that “iron” is a trivial name regardless of the chemical symbol, as it is the accepted name of a known element, not based on the element’s atomic number (in this case 26). More generally, all known elements (#1, hydrogen; thru #118, oganesson) are called by a trivial name – a generally-accepted non-systematic name. Solomonfromfinland (talk) 19:49, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
