In defence of sense 2
[edit]The usual sense of this already obscure word is sense 1 (the demo loaded from floppy disk tracks, found e.g. on the Commodore Amiga). However, the other sense (demo synchronised with a soundtrack) does exist. Just to defend it pre-emptively (with regard to the ZX Spectrum computer that I had as a kid):
- zxart.ee has a whole category of Spectrum "trackmos" which do not generally (if ever) use custom floppy disk formats.
- There are also a few with "trackmo" in the name, e.g. "Whole 128K Trackmo" by CI5 The Amaters, which not only doesn't use a custom format but could even be loaded from cassette tape instead of disk.
- Wikipedia's article on ZX Spectrum demos notes: "Most of the demos since 1996 have been 'trackmos' (effects fixed to music), often featuring 3D objects, sometimes in low resolutions, to achieve more colours." (And I didn't write that!)
