Not obsolete

[edit]

Removed the 'obsolete'. The word (as a noun, at least) is still widely used in some fields (for example, poker). 82.24.183.21 21:48, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't feel like searching for modern quotations now but I'm sure that you are more than likely right because I think I even heard in some video game that I played a few years ago. 50 Xylophone Players talk 22:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Much less common than "tournament", but widely understood and not archaic as noun. As verb I'd bet on it being archaic, certainly in US. DCDuring TALK 23:37, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
And as verb I would not bet on it being archaic, certainly not in Britain, where the term was current in 1843, as shewn by Carlyle’s quotation. Is the verb dated? The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 08:26, 24 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
