John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) has more of a sense of not being trustworthy: "Touch-and-go, an expression often applied to men with whom business arrangements should be of the lightest possible character. Thus, He's a TOUCH-AND-GO sort of fellow. Be careful of him." Equinox 05:27, 11 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
