The expression "toodeloo" has a modern provenance. Historians and etymologists have not seriously researched that one. But let me venture a guess: A Frenchman was very bored by the conversation of an Englishman, and in order to disappear without being curt, he intimated that he needed to take a leak, and said: "to de lieu !" It's from the German Tüdelü, meaning "see you soon."
