Talk:toilet
Add topicEN: Vague circular definitions
[edit]Surely we can do better than vague circular definitions like
- (UK, Australia) A room or enclosed area containing a toilet: a bathroom or water closet. [from 19th c.] quotations ▼
- (New Zealand) A small secondary lavatory having a toilet and sink but no bathtub or shower.
Perhaps these entries were written by a US-English speaker who thought that this would be clear to US-English-speaking readers.
Note well that the markup as [[toilet#English: fixture|toilet]] is not visible when just viewing the article, rather than the source code.
Note also that the sense presumably referred to appears after these definitions.

EN: Euphemism
[edit]Should several of these definitions be tagged as euphemisms, as is the case at lavatory, given, "From its use as a private room, toilet came to refer euphemistically to lavatories and then to its fixtures, beginning in the United States in the late 19th century."? —DIV (1.145.115.242 13:41, 2 February 2023 (UTC))
