Possible missing verb sense
[edit]- 1902, John Buchan, The Outgoing of the Tide
- When they had gone on a bit the dark man spoke again. 'The lassie is thirled to holy things,' says he; 'she has nae care for flesh and blood,—only for devout contemplation.'
I imagine this might be related to thrall (we only have the noun), i.e. she is devoted to holy things in the manner of a servant. Equinox ◑ 19:47, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
