From WT:RFD:

That's what's up

[edit]

I can't imagine this ever being used in this form. A jocular expression is not rephrased formally. Would this be better, if moved to that's wassup? --Connel MacKenzie T C 04:58, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Don't think the latter option is any better. No different than "that" used in reply to any question - what's a fingu? That's a fingu! bd2412 T 22:53, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • This is a response to a statement, not a question.
(interviewer): "..I just got the album, and I'm feeling it man. "
(hip-hop artist) "That's what's up, I appreciate it man." [1].
Also [2], [3], [4], [5] seem to show the sense of geneneral approval. Kappa 23:30, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
How is that different from "That's what's happening"[6] or "That's what's going on"[7][8] (granted, "That's what's up" gets a lot more hits). bd2412 T 00:57, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I think the links you gave can be interpreted as sum-of-parts. "I get my thing in action (Verb!) To be, to sing, to feel, to live (Verb!) That's what's happenin'" i.e. "These are the events which are taking place". There might be some "general approval" hits for these expressions but I couldn't find any. From RFV. Please post further comments here. Also note capitalisation. Andrew massyn 11:43, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Highly disagree. The reasons for deleting are either (1) not verified or (2) not idiomatic.
  1. It is clearly in use as cited above, particularly [9], [10], and[11].
  2. It should be permitted as a speech act under the test identified above.
I feel like I don't need to add anything, that this was already a fairly strong keep as it stood. Davilla 15:46, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
