[edit]Is there any explanation why this word isn't written with it's second <t> geminated when it's pronounced long? Perhaps, sandhi from "terve(t) tulo", and as these words merged, they retained the pronounciation but not the writing? Wisapi 00:52, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Many Finnish words ending in -e will either be followed by a glottal stop or the beginning consonant of the next word pronounced long. This is called (deprecated template usage) jäännöslopuke ("border gemination"). Since tervetuloa is a compound of terve and tuloa, the t of the second word is geminated in pronunciation.
