Meaning?

If you go to the Malagasy Wiktionary and find an article of an inflected form of a word in some language, you'll see that the definitions often end in "ny teny " + lemma. Based on this, you would expect the word "teny" to mean 'word' or something like that, but I really don't know. What I can say is that "teny" is definitely a word in Malagasy, if you google "ny teny" in quotes, you'll get over three million hits, the first two pages of clearly Malagasy language results. 188.238.34.204 18:07, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

The creator of the entry knows no Malagasy and used an outdated resource. As far as I can tell, this word means "word" and fiteny means "language". —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 18:22, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

diff was an out-of-process removal, and apparently was not based on careful work with sources since the meaning "language" is given not only by Freeman 1835 but also by Hallanger 1973 if one believes http://malagasyword.org/bins/teny2?w=teny. Therefore, I restored the content that I originally provided, including the definition "language", while keeping "word" as another meaning. The fact that the creator, which is me, knows no Malagasy does not matter (188.238.34.204 and Metaknowledge also do not seem to know Malagasy); careful work with sources is what matters.

As for uses of the word teny, the linked malagasyword.org gives the following example sentence: "Mahay teny anglisy ve ianao?" Here, "teny anglisy" seems to mean "the English language". --Dan Polansky (talk) 08:42, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
