Etymology of information theory definition

Currently, Tribus's book "Thermostatics and Thermodynamics" is cited as the source for the information-theory definition of surprisal. But when I went to Google Books and searched the book, the search didn't find any mention of that word. Furthermore, Google books says the publication year is 1959, whereas this definintion says the publication year is 1961.
