Etymology

In addition to the Main Entry, Professor Skeat adds comparisons with Icelandic SPRAKA[4] (to crackle), Lithuanian SPRAGỀTI[4] (to crackle) and, Greek SPHARAGOS[5] (a crackling). The inclusion of a possible relationship with Breton erc’h (“snow”) is wildly imaginative and grossly inaccurate, so ought to be deleted.
