I can state with a measure of certainty that the word 'snoof' was created by Canadian humorist Paul Hiebert(1892 - 1987) and appeared in his novel 'Sarah Binks'. In this 1947 spoof on Canadian Literature, Hiebert's heroine is a poet ('The Sweet Songstress of Saskatchewan') and the word appears in a poem titled 'The Hired Man on Saturday Night.'I quote the first stanza of the poem as it appears in The New Canadian Library edition of 'Sarah Binks', page 32:
A horse! A horse! Give me a horse, To dash across the frozen north, And wallow in the mire, A noble barb with cloven hoof, With brazen wings and blatant snoof, And molten eyes of fire.
- That's a noun. Our entry is for an adjective. In your quoted poem it appears to mean "snuffing sound" or something...? Equinox ◑ 18:48, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
