Descendant or calque

@Lingo Bingo Dingo. The word seems to be a direct descendant rather than a later calque, as the Dutch word scheldpartij precedes the existence of Afrikaans. On Google Books, the earliest attestation I could find is (as scheldparty) from 1761: [1]) Attestations continue at a relatively high frequency throughout the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The earliest Afrikaans attestation of skeldparty I could find on Google Books is from 1928.[2] 1925 is seen as the year that Afrikaans formally split from Dutch; before that, it was considered a dialect of Dutch. A bit of original research, but combining these facts, it seems more likely that skeldparty is a direct continuation and not a later calque. Morgengave (talk) 21:14, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
