perhaps the slang meaning of this word should also be included.

signify (slang)- relating to an overt or implicit showing of one's freedom in the presence of inmates or convicts.


As from Kerouac when he wrote, "I went to talk to the prisoners, but didn't tell them of my travels cuz I didn't want to signify." (paraphrase)

I don't see how paraphrasing something is likely to convince anyone that the author used the word precisely that way. Offhand, I do not think that that nonce use would merit a definition line. If it were to be used figuratively, it would be much more general, instead of being limited only to inmates. --Connel MacKenzie 23:12, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
