From Vonnegut's 1973 Playboy interview:

PLAYBOY: How did the people around you react [to the moon launch]?

VONNEGUT, JR.: They were gaga. They were scrogging the universe. And they were sheepish and sort of smug afterward. You could see a message in their eyes, too: Nobody was to tell the outside world that NASA was running the goddamnedest massage parlor in history.
