Love The Screwtape Letters, particularly as a Catholic (it's a good teaching tool), but this really needs some attestations for both senses. Tharthan (talk) 05:33, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
- I have cited the first definition, although I think it needs tweaking, all I could find was a transitive sense. I also added a completely unrelated noun under a separate etymology. Kiwima (talk) 22:36, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for the citations! I do wonder about the second citation, though, as it is capitalised and the work that it is from is titled "C. S. Lewis and the Catholic Church", which makes its legitimacy as an attestation seem slightly weak. Tharthan (talk) 00:50, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, it's referring specifically to the creation of illusions in the manner of the title character- perhaps by the title character, which is why it's capitalized. The second quote of the second etymology is referring to "the Screwtapes" like it's a proper noun- which it might very well be. Chuck Entz (talk) 03:01, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

RFV-resolved. Everything passes except for "To bump a particularly old topic thread on the internet or in an electronic forum, by posting an ironic or humorous reply to a previous message." Kiwima (talk) 22:48, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
