Etymology

[edit]

Scran etymology: the first recorded sense of scran, from the early eighteenth century, actually refers to a reckoning at a tavern. Tsinfandel (talk) 21:00, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Geographical distribution

[edit]

Certainly also used as far north as Edinburgh in the 1970s and 80s. I have no formal reference however, so relegating this remark to the Talk page. LaFolleCycliste (talk) 03:51, 5 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Begging for food?

[edit]

Chambers 1908 has scranning as "the act of begging for food" so perhaps there should be a verb infinitive here. Equinox 06:34, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
