According to the Fox News," including al-Megrahi, 24 prisoners have been freed on compassionate grounds in Scotland over the last decade. Have prisoners been freed from Scottish prisons like this througout Scottish history? This may have coined the old phrase,"scot-free"?? According to Scottish law anyone with a terminal illness in a Scottish prison can go "scot-free" right? I'm open for comments. — This comment was unsigned.
- No idea about a history of Scottish leniency. The etymology of scot-free and Scot are different. I think Fox was just utilizing a opportunity for a minor pun. DCDuring TALK 10:35, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
This appears in Chambers 1908. Could make sense (without a scart, or scratch, on one) but doesn't agree with our ety here. Equinox ◑ 03:03, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
