[edit]It's possible to explain "score" as used in newsreaders? — This comment was unsigned.

Cricket senses
[edit]Are the cricket senses not just the broader sense of points in a game? After all, we don't have separate senses for the score in tennis, even though that has its own unusual numbering. Equinox ◑ 03:18, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
Especifically
[edit]I've never seen the word especifically anywhere else than here. Is it a mix of especially and specifically?—157.157.125.10 21:40, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Possible missing sense: 20 pounds sterling, 20 "quid"
[edit]We have the sense "a weight of twenty pounds" but I've read somewhere that it might also mean 20 pounds in currency. However (probably since I'm not a Cockney doing shady deals on street corners) I haven't actually heard this to confirm it. Equinox ◑ 06:17, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I added this sense using a quote from a Plan B rap song. It seems to be originally and mainly a Cockney phrase but I can find the occasional use (not durably attested) online from people from other parts of England. Overlordnat1 (talk) 07:38, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

numeral adjective
[edit]Formerly score preceded by a was often treated as a numeral adjective (e.g. I form’d a score different plans—Sterne, 1768) --Backinstadiums (talk) 18:11, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia often says stuff like "reviewers scored the game a 9 out of 10".

- That was a missing sense - it might be quite a recent development, as it's quite hard to find in books, but common in recent journalism. Theknightwho (talk) 16:06, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
