Schlau/Sly cognatehood

[edit]

This article states that "Schlau" is "in all likelihood not related" to English "sly"; however, the article for "sly" lists "Schlau" as a cognate. The time unfortunately escapes me at present to do the necessary research to confirm which position is correct; however, an agreement should be sought. 192.76.8.66 12:37, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

The source says "Engels sly, dat op de wortel van → slaan teruggaat, is niet verwant," meaning something like "English sly, which is instead from the root of slaan (to hit), is not related." 13:16, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
