toadfish?

[edit]

Chambers 1908 gives a "toadfish" definition for English, from Spanish. I couldn't easily cite it. I wonder if it's a word for the toadfish in Spanish too; we only have "toad". Equinox 12:02, 21 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

[edit]

@Mlgc1998 For one of the etymologies, does any of the sources say that it's short for "sapupo"? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:06, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser the KWF and Tagalog Lang websites use them as definition synonyms. unclear how they indicate shortenings for those websites. Mlgc1998 (talk) 14:20, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Mlgc1998: Yep so they definitely have same definitions, and the similarity of the words indicate same origin. But we don't know whether "sapupo" came from "sapo" or "sapo" came from "sapupo", or they both same from an older word. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:26, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
