This entire entry should be merged with run around, as it is merely the nominal form of that verb. Here, definition 1: "An evasive explanation in the form of multiple excuses" is inaccurate. That is simply a specific illustration. The true, general definition is "A busy workload"; hence the phrase "Given the run around" (or the alternative spellings "runaround" and "run-around") means "Given false or incomplete information creating a busy situation".
