Chambers 1908 defines road-car as "a kind of omnibus": so was it once a larger passenger vehicle, like a coach? (Remember car can mean "horse-drawn carriage", so this might well pre-date the internal combustion engine.) Equinox 13:45, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
