New #2: "Something that is easy to enter, but is difficult or costly to leave." Equinox ◑ 09:59, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- If this exists, it's probably derived from the brand name Roach Motel. 98.170.164.88 07:17, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Well advertised once was the brand's slogan: "Roaches check in, but they don't check out." The WP articles suggest that the term is used, eg, in IT: "You can get data into a “roach motel”, but you can't easily get it out." and "Put simply, a Roach Motel makes it very easy for a user to get into a certain situation, but then makes it hard for them to get out". Also sometimes in business, eg, "That's because the Kindle is a “roach motel” device: its license terms and DRM ensure that books can check in, but they can't check out". It is not quite synonymous with black hole. DCDuring (talk) 13:15, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

- Great work, DCDuring. I've added the etymology you and 98.170 mentioned (with link to Wikipedia which says the same). - -sche (discuss) 00:14, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
