Add topicNote that the technical mathematical definition covers negative numbers, for both the dividend and divisor. This is at odds with the informal mathematical definition (which assumes positive numbers) and with the semantics of many programming environments (which handle negative numbers differently).
The informal definition is close to the original mathematical definition, which predates the widespread recognition of negative numbers.
