this was almost certainly used sincerely

i guess i'd have to look at older print media to find it, but my understanding is that religion of peace was used as a byname for Islam because the word Islam is cognate to Arabic سَلَام (“peace”), but this connection was so widely criticized for political reasons that sincere use fell out of favor and it is now almost always sarcastic. —Soap— 11:02, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
